Call for Papers for the 11th Edition of the Int. Conference CERSAN2024 to be Held in Venice

In my capacity as chair of the organising committee and delegated by the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage of Cà Foscari University of Venice, I am happy to announce that the call for papers and panels for the 11th edition of the prestigious conference on international studies CESRAN2024, which this year will take place 1-3 October in Venice, is open. Proposals can be now submitted through the dedicated form until the 1st June.

The conference, which will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online) will take place in an innovative ‘net-centric’ format through to the establishment of a network with prestigious European universities:

  • Karadeniz Technical University (KTU), Trabzon, Turkey
  • Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (ZBEU), Zonguldak, Turkey
  • Tampere University (TUNI), Finland
  • Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Estonia
  • Vytautas Magnus University (VMU), Kaunas, Lithuania
  • Jacob of Paradies University (AJP), Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland
  • Tbilisi “Ivane Javakhishvili” State University (TSU), Georgia
  • Autonomous University of Lisbon (UAL), Portugal, and OBSERVARE, Observatory of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous University of Lisbon
  • Minho University (UM), Braga, Portugal


The latest editions of the conference, which takes place annually, were held in Lisbon (2019-2023) with the exception of the 9th edition (2022) which took place in York, England. The conference was established in Turkey, where the first editions took place (2014-2018).

This year the conference will pay particular attention to the conflict in the Middle East and the Russia-West confrontation, with particular emphasis on the war in Ukraine. The general focus will be on international security and global governance.

Among the invited guest/keynote speakers: Prof. Ilan Pappé of the University of Exter and Dr. Jana Puglierin of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).

These are the main topics of this edition of the conference which will be divided in sessions and panels (the definitive program will be released on 1 August and will be handled in paperback to the participants onsite and made available in digital format through the conference website):

      • Current Debates in International Relations Theories and Changing Geopolitical Circumstances

      • The Quest for Strategic Equivalence in the International System


    Paper accepted for presentation will be included in the Book of Abstracts released in digital format with ISBN through the conference website.

    In order to encourage participation and research activities by students and early stage scholars who intend to pursue an academic career the scientific committee has established a dedicated “Young Researchers” award for the best paper presented in this special category.

    The organization supports female participation and, in general, hopes that gender equality and equality are represented.
